Checking on Flooding in the Northwest

With many rivers in Washington state reaching record levels, it has caused over 100,000 to be evacuated. 20 highways in Washington are closed across 11 counties. Washington State National Guard troops are trying to go door-to-door looking for people trapped in their homes that are surrounded by water. Over 15 inches of rain has fallen in the area the last few days, and everything is saturated. There have been many boat and helicopter rescues.

There is a State and Federal Emergency Declaration for Washington. Dale Linge, our Associate Director in the Northwest, has been trying to reach out to congregations , but it is still too early to do much of anything but wait. The water will need to recede before people will be allowed to go back to their neighborhoods to determine the damages.

We are ready to help as soon as we can get the word from congregations that it’s safe, and that they are ready to go to work helping their community. Please be praying for the many families devastated by these heavy rains.

We have been busy continuing to send orders of new appliances, mattress sets, water heaters, and furniture to areas slowly recovering the flooding, tornadoes, and hurricane damage that has taken place the last several years. We send these items low-income, uninsured families, to help them replace some of the items they lost because of the disaster in their area.
